has enjoyed a successful and wide-ranging career across the spectrum of entertainment, space, technology, social impact and politics, producing award-winning content for world-famous artists, top brands and political heavyweights. Collaborating with a diverse assortment of household names, including U2, Calvin Harris, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Alejandro Sanz, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Gwen Stefani and Eminem, TI, Usher, and Priyanka Chopra, to name a few, Phillips has produced everything from music videos and documentary features to fundraisers and special events.
Finding solutions to social issues has become a north star for Phillips, prompting her to focus considerable energy on purpose-driven projects, fundraising and public service announcements. Her producing work with this objective in mind includes Stand Up On Demand, a fundraising campaign that raised more than $10 million for nonprofit Stand Up To Cancer; the Clinton Foundation’s short film Sabina, which premiered at the “A Decade of Difference” concert at the Hollywood Bowl; and a PSA for the Elizabeth Smart Foundation’s “Not One More Child” campaign, which debuted on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
A respected figure in the entertainment industry, Phillips produced the documentaries Buffalo Girls and Mythical Creatures. The latter film, featuring artist Gary Baseman, was selected for the Sundance Institute New Frontier Story Lab and Sundance Institute Documentary Producers and Fellows Program. Phillips has produced music videos for a vast array of artists including Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, will.i.am, Wu-Tang Clan, Faith Hill, Jennifer Lopez, Muse and Rage Against the Machine, among countless others. In 2016 she produced one of the most popular videos of the year, Calvin Harris’ “This Is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna, which received more than 1.8 billion views within six months of its release.
A Southern California native, Phillips began her career as a music journalist working with author Danny Sugerman, The Doors drummer John Densmore, Timothy Leary, and William Burroughs, before moving into music video production at Propaganda Films, home of filmmakers David Fincher, Michael Bay, and Spike Jonze. She went on to launch the music video division at Palomar Pictures, where she worked with directors Nick Brandt, Marcos Siega, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Joseph Kahn, executive producing music videos for Weezer, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Moby, and Wu-Tang Clan, among others.
Phillips worked as an executive producer at Neal Moritz’s Original Film and at A Band Apart, where she represented feature directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Tim Burton, Darren Aronofsky, Larry Clark and John Landis for music videos and music related content. From there she went on to found Lanette Phillips Management, representing filmmakers including Errol Morris, Ron Fricke, Jesse Dylan for music videos and branded content.
The producer has had a long and fruitful relationship with artists in Iceland and traveled to Reykjavík to be a panelist at the You Are In Control Conference, organized by Iceland Music Export (IMX) and the Trade Council of Iceland. She was asked to host a music event in Los Angeles to introduce Icelandic artists to the U.S. entertainment and advertising communities. The inaugural event was held in her home and co-hosted by Jónsi of Sigur Rós. Sigtryggur Baldursson from the Sugarcubes co-hosted the second annual event, with Ólafur Arnalds performing. In the years to follow, many notable performers, including Emiliana Torrini, Sin Fang, Lay Low and Ólöf Arnalds, have appeared at this fast-growing event, now an annual tradition.
Phillips has served on numerous advisory boards for conferences, international events and organizations, including UCLA, USC, the United Nations Association Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Slamdance, SXSW, AFI, Los Angeles Film Festival, Billboard Music Conference, Music Video Producers Association, the Recording Academy, MTV Music Awards Conference, Waves VR and the Arts High Foundation.
Phillips currently serves as a Board Member on 501(c)(3) Nonprofit, Kiss the Ground, which has become a leading voice in raising awareness for regeneration through storytelling, education, and advocacy. The core belief is that regenerative agriculture is a viable solution to combat the climate, water, and health crisis.
